Welcome to the NATIONAL BUDGET NEWS AND CALIFORNIA'S NEW AUSTRIAN NAZI GOVERNOR BONANZA (featuring news on Norwegian ex-pats pissing people off overseas)!
**National Budget proposal slaughtered by opposition. As our under-fire Government published its proposal for next year's budget, protests were loud and rife from opponents on both the left and right wing. The Christian-conservative government plans to implement a huge tax break that will only benefit the filthy rich (some 12 billion kroner, which amounts to around £1 billion, or US $1,5 billion). The bill for said tax break will, as always! be sent to the old, the unemployed, the medically dependent, single mothers and parents with small children. As destructive and anti-social as any budget by a conservative government can be expected to be, this one is one bridge too far. The government is expected to fall during the debating of the budget over the next month and a half, and I'd be happy to kick their arses all the way into the North Sea.
**Hooray for anti smoking fanaticism! One consequence of the Budget, should it pass Parliament in one piece, is that the prices of roll-up tobacco will be raised from its already astronomical level by another 45 per cent. This means that one packet of such tobacco will cost the user 150 kroner. That's nearly £15! Meanwhile, the price for a beer will as of 1st January be thrice the price just across the border, in Sweden. Understand it if you can...!
**The definitely most disgusting proposal by our fucked-up government, however, is one they claim will 'reduce unemployment' (that's the same unemployment that they have caused to be more than doubled in less than 2,5 years). The government proposes to change the law regulating workers' rights, making it easier to fire employees and increasing the amount of temporary employments. That sounds a bit like pissing your pants to keep warm to me, but not to Employment Minister Victor Norman, a staunch Conservative and a fucking arsehole to boot.
**Surprise, surprise, Arnold might be going all the way to the White House after all. turns out they're pushing through a change in the American Constitution that will allow citizens not born in the USA to become President. God damn you, idiots!
**Finally, Norwegian-American senator Kaare Maurice Johannessen is in the news today. He's a great supporter of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Our very own slimeball is a super conservative-reactionary Republican from some religious hell-hole in California, against all forms of prevention and abortion, a great believer in capital punishment and got elected on a platform whereby he promised to take away all social benefits from 1,9 million illegal immigrants. What a scumbag. Of course, Norwegian-related and highly reactionary American politicians aren't a novelty. Last month bastard-in-chief and sicko John Ashcroft visited his relatives in West Norway. At least it's a good thing these scumbags have moved abroad, although I pity the Americans for having to host them.
**The King is in Brazil, where, amongst other things, he seems to be enjoying the sight of slim-clad samba dancers quite intensely!
And now for something completely different:
**Espen Knutsen not going anywhere. National ice hockey icon Espen Knutsen is to remain with Colombus Blue Jackets. After being dropped from the squad speculation has started of a possible return to Europe or even to his old Norwegian club, Vålerenga. Anyway, as his current wage probably would take up something like 150% of Vålerenga's total budget, that seemed like a long shot. Now, the latest reports indicate that Knutsen will stay in the US, possibly seeing out his contract playing for Blue Jackets' farmer club.
