Yuletide is here! Yippee, let's waste all our money!
Damn. It's approaching christmas again, and I have yet not completed my present-shopping. I expect to be there come Tuesday, as all years.
Our kid is growing quickly as heck, and before long we'll have an entirely new focus in life. I'm determined to raise my children outside of the merchant culture that is the modern christmas celebration. Time together will our family will have presedence over time in front of the Playstation, if nothing else.
christmas in this country and in the rest of the Western hemisphere has, of course, lost much of its charm. What is supposed to be a spiritually enhancing holidays with family and friends has become, well, a spiritus-intoxicating orgy of consumption and self-indulgence. When I was little (which, lest we forget, isn't that long ago) we got what must've been less than half the amounts of gifts that are dished out nowadays. Will I be a bad dad if I refuse to buy an Xbox for my child for christmas and instead go out investing in the future - a tablehockey game? Rubbish!
Baby report
Rachel's huge! 24 weeks in now, and with just 16 weeks remaining, the little rascal in there has grown to a massive 30 centimetres, weighing an impressive 800 grammes! My wife is not especially tall (1m62cm), and so her belly has just grown massive. Strangely, when seen from behind you can't tell that she's pregnant at all though, it's just her stomach that's gotten huge like a blowfish! Now, even I feel the kicking against the stomach.
My best friend became a father about two months ago and had a wonderful little boy. He looks like a man transformed, happiness glows from him and his girlfriend both. In four months' time it will be our turn. YAAHOO!!!
Wuzzup in Norway
**Norwegian comedian Otto Jespersen got off the hook and will not be punished or prosecuted for burning the American flag live on national TV in February. Oslo's District Attorney pressed charges after pressure from the American embassy, but the Attorney General has ruled that flag burning is a legal political expression. Way to go!
**Listen to Norwegian radio here from anywhere in the world. If you want to, you know.
**Enough with that fucking fish already! Keiko was buried the other day. Come on, get off it! He was a fish! A FISH!!
**Idiot rapist bastard gets imprisoned with a number of incriminating text messages he sent to his victim being used as prime evidence. There really are no limits to human stupidity...
**Benfica, Newcastle to play in Norway for UEFA cup 3rd Rd. Rosenborg and Vålerenga respectively got drawn against major players in this competition. The games are to be played in February, a time which usually means tons of snow and freezing cold weather all over the place. Could be interesting.
**Arabs in Norway are under suspicion of having fought in the Iraqi war, according to Italian investigators questioning our own Osama wannabe, mullah Krekar. As per usual, they have not a shred of evidence, not that anyone usually needs that to blemish the Arabs in this country...
**Espen Knutsen seems bound for Swedish club Djurgården after having his contract with Colombus Blue Jackets terminated some time ago. A move to Dinamo Moscow seemed to be on the cards, but never materialised. At the moment, our national hockey icon trains in Oslo with his former club Vålerenga while looking for a new club.
More coming soon, stay suede.
